Industry ministry says still expects 2023 car sales to grow

CHELYABINSK, Mar 10 (PRIME) -- The Industry and Trade Ministry still expects the Russian car market to expand in 2023, Deputy Minister Albert Karimov said on Friday.

"Given the forecasts, the current situation and the external sanction pressure, even with the fact that the facilities worked at full capacity in the first quarter of last year, we expect that we will raise last year’s figure this year," Karimov said.

The market stood at about 1.050 million cars, including second-hand vehicles imported to Russia for the first time in 2022, Karimov said.

According to an earlier statement by Minister Denis Manturov, sales slid by 50% in 2022 to 800,000.
